(March 29, 2019 – TAIPEI) – Today former ASUS CEO Jerry Shen hosted a press event to reveal his latest decision to enter in the entrepreneur scene and launch his new company iMotion Group. Today’s event titled “When Einstein met Da Vinci” included a product launch event called “i-leap” and followed with a music banquet called “Somewhere in Time.” The event had over 100 experts from the IPC industry in attendance. iMotion Chairman Jerry Shen explaining his motivation to making a radical career change said, “The destiny and mission of technology enthusiasts is to constantly innovate and make new breakthroughs. Only innovation can change destinies and only breakthroughs can successfully complete one’s mission. It takes both to be able to make people’s lives more prosperous and meaningful.”
Mr. Shen emphasized that this is a significant leap for him to go from an executive position at a large corporation to an entrepreneurial role at a small company. He said that entrepreneurs need two “strengths” (ability and hard work) and two “energies” (courage and luck), and have the conviction to turn “small” into “smart”, in other words, transform their small companies into skilled companies that operate on smart technique and smart resource utilization. Mr. Shen chose to become an entrepreneur with the hopes to establish a new model for entrepreneurism, consolidate more resources towards the IPC industry and establish more career opportunities for the talented youth in Taiwan.
Mr. Shen elaborated that the purpose of creating iMotion relates to today’s event theme “i-leap” because he expects the company to consistently leap forward with breakthrough innovations similar to the results he experienced leading ASUS through various successful projects such as the Eee PC netbooks, Nexus 7 Android tablet PCs, T100 Windows Touch 2-in-1, and ZenFone smartphones, which all pioneered significant industry breakthroughs and milestones. Mr. Shen firmly believes that regardless of how drastic the industry changes, the most important aspect of business is customer happiness and experience. This belief is not only iMotion’s mission, but also the base foundation for the company’s brand vision — to foster smart innovation and data integration for a new AIPC era.
iMotion is targeted at expanding the applications and services of the upcoming AIPC. Mr. Shen explained, “From traditional PC computing and smartphone industries, then jumping over to the IPC industry, and then from within the IPC industry selecting to start with Android Mobile AIPC, iMotion’s main goal is to provide a new direction for the development of AIPC.” Explaining in further detail, Mr. Shen said that because of the evolution of the computing industry, the framework of our lives has evolved from human-to-human interactions to human-to-things, but it will evolve further to become a things-to-things era. Traditional PC computing and smartphones already fulfilled the human-to-human goal, but in order to make the next step toward human-to-things and things-to-things scenarios, the most direct and effective method will be to ensure all devices can produce data such as IPC. Furthermore, it’s also because of the computing evolution that people have new expectations when it comes to anytime, anywhere, right now, and right here. Therefore, the most nature way the Mobile IPC industry will evolve is to utilized barcodes and QR codes to establish a unique identify for all “things” that can seamlessly create a foundation for connecting humans-to-things and things-to-things. At the same time, Mobile IPC can also quickly perform the data integration necessary for key trends such as “Smart Retail” and “Connected Services.” In other words, Mobile IPC will inevitably become the result of evolution from the IPC industry and spark the era of “human-to-things” and “things-to-things” paradigms. However, this is just the beginning of the evolutionary process as it will continue on to address the rising AI trend. AIPC will be the next step for Mobile IPC and the ultimate goal of iMotion.
The prototype of iMotion’s first product also was debuted at today’s event. Chairman Shen expressed, “The design of a new technology product should originate from the demands of an ideal lifestyle and the desire to provide an honestly good experience. The intention is to create a new masterpiece that can make our lives more enjoyable. iMotion is committed to create products that are highly discernible, professionally crafted and exceedingly valuable, and expects to bring a new vision to the IPC industry that will deliver a never-before-seen experience to our customers.” The first iMotion’s product exemplifies beautiful designs with exquisite craftsmanship enforcing the brand’s reputation of incredible value and quality. To ensure a resilient exterior design, we selected Corning Gorilla Glass 6 screen to endure drops from two meters and pass the IP67 certification for protection against water and dust. In terms of performance, it comes equipped with a Snapdragon 600 CPU for superior performance, Android 9 operating system for a seamless user interface, and 5200mAH large battery. In addition, the screen was carefully selected to come with a 6″ FHD+ display that has a 18:9 ratio and 600 nits of brightness for the best viewing experience. Currently, the norm in the IPC industry is to use 5.5″ screens with 16:9 ratio, so using a 18:9 ratio in a 6″ screen makes the viewing experience larger and more enjoyable. The larger screen plus its weight of only 250g makes it more comfortable to hold and use, which comes together with all the other features to perfectly fulfill all of our customers’ demands.
Taking the customers’ demands even more seriously, iMotion added in the option to select preferred sound volumes when the phone is turning on showing the company’s dedication to every fine detail to ensure a positive user experience. In order for customers to immediately experience the latest products, iMotion eliminated one of the industry’s old norms of taking up to 12-24 months to complete a new product development cycle by reducing it down to a mere 4 months. At the same time, iMotion also adopts a new and innovative technique to meet the IPC industry requirement of low volume with more options and varieties which gives customers’ more flexibility to find the perfect devices for their specific needs helping them to achieve the ideal smart life and happy experiences as well as eliciting new value for the industry.
Following the product launch event, a group of students from Mr. Shen’s Dong Yuan Elementary school came all the way from rural Tainan to perform a live cajon drum performance to express their support for their alumni and cheer on his new endeavor. Mr. Shen throughout his entire career has been very active in supporting and giving back to his school to help continue developing proper education in rural areas. Thus, the entourage from the school including the principal joined together to perform a harmonious version of “You Raise Me Up” resulting in an emotional and uplifting atmosphere. The beautiful voices coming from the pure spirits of these talented children echo iMotion’s conviction to pursuing genuine experiences and fulfilling all aesthetic demands with the hopes to bring a wave of new style and energy to the traditional technology industry.
After the Dong Yuan Elementary school group left stage, the next event was “Somewhere in Time” music banquet which included a series of extraordinary performances from the internationally renowned pianist Guan-Yu Chen, Taipei National University of Arts professor Qi-Hua Cheng, bel canto tenor David Teng and many other famous Taiwanese musicians that were dedicated to the launch of iMotion. As an additional surprise, the encore at the end of the performance was led by Jerry Shen himself who sang the new song he personally composed for iMotion which serves as a symbol for the brand’s dedication to teamwork and its mission to guide the industry to a new level.
iMotion is located at the 6th floor of a building above SongShan station. The office provides a “Da Vince Space” that all team members have a space to enjoy art and music.
